Tonechaser (“we,” “us,” “our”) operates the Tonechaser iOS application and the website https://tonechaser.app(collectively, the “Services”).

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information about you when you interact with our Services.


1. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • The Tonechaser iOS app, including all CloudKit-based data synchronization and marketplace features (“Backstage”).
  • The Tonechaser website, including Gravity Forms submissions from retailers and manufacturers (“RMs”).
  • The Node.js gateway that transmits data between the website and Apple CloudKit.

It does not apply to third-party websites or services that link to or integrate with Tonechaser.


2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide

  • Retailers / Manufacturers (RMs): When submitting a listing or partner-deal form through our WordPress site, we collect the fields you submit (e.g., company name, contact info, product details, pricing, photos).
  • App users (musicians): Through the iOS app, you may store or upload information about your gear, tones, recordings, offers, messages, and ratings.
  • Account information: If you sign in with Apple ID, we receive your verified Apple identifier and (optionally) display name and email address.
  • Support or correspondence: Any information you send us directly (emails, feedback, etc.).

2.2 Information collected automatically

  • Device and operating-system identifiers provided by Apple when you use the app.
  • Server logs (IP address, request time, endpoint) for security and diagnostics on our Node.js gateway.
  • No cookies or analytics tracking are used on the public website.

2.3 Information from third parties

If you participate in promotional or partner programs, we may receive limited information (e.g., Reverb shop URL, public ratings) to verify authenticity, subject to your explicit opt-in.


3. How We Use Information

We process your data to:

  • Provide and maintain the Tonechaser app and marketplace features.
  • Sync your data securely across devices through Apple CloudKit.
  • Process retailer/manufacturer submissions and publish listings.
  • Manage subscriptions and in-app purchases through Apple and RevenueCat.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide support.
  • Enforce our Terms of Use and protect against fraud or abuse.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell personal data or use it for targeted advertising.


4. Legal Basis for Processing

Where required by law (e.g., GDPR / UK GDPR), we rely on one or more of the following:

  • Performance of a contract (to deliver the Services).
  • Legitimate interests (operating and improving our platform).
  • Compliance with legal obligations.
  • Consent, when you explicitly grant it (e.g., verifying a partner account).

5. Sharing of Information

We share data only as necessary:

  • Apple CloudKit — to store and synchronize app records (gear, listings, offers, messages, ratings).
  • RevenueCat / Apple App Store — to process payments and manage subscriptions.
  • Service providers — for secure hosting and maintenance of our Node.js gateway and WordPress infrastructure.
  • Legal compliance — to respond to lawful requests or protect our rights.

All transfers occur under appropriate data-protection agreements.


6. International Transfers

Tonechaser operates from the United States but uses Apple CloudKit infrastructure that may store or process data in other jurisdictions.

When data is transferred outside your country, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.


7. Data Retention

  • App data (CloudKit): retained while your Tonechaser account remains active or until you delete your records.
  • Retailer/manufacturer submissions: retained as long as the related listings remain published or as legally required.
  • Server logs: automatically purged within 30 days.

You may request deletion of your data at any time (see Section 10).


8. Security

We use technical and organizational measures including:

  • TLS encryption for all communications.
  • Apple CloudKit authentication and token-based access control.
  • Role-limited server access and activity logging.
  • Regular updates and security patching.

No system is perfectly secure, but we continually review safeguards to minimize risk.


9. Children’s Privacy

Tonechaser is intended for users 18 years or older.

We do not knowingly collect information from minors.

If we learn that we have collected data from a person under 18 without consent, we will delete it.


10. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may:

  • Request access to the data we hold about you.
  • Request correction or deletion of your data.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Request data portability.
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

We may verify your identity before fulfilling requests.


11. Data Breach Notification

If a data breach occurs that poses a risk to your rights or freedoms, we will notify affected users and applicable authorities within the timelines required by law.


12. Cookies and Tracking

The Tonechaser website currently does not use analytics or advertising cookies.

Any future introduction of tracking technologies will be reflected in an updated policy and, where required, a consent banner.


13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically.

Changes will be posted at tonechaser.app/privacy-policy with a revised “Last updated” date.

If updates are material, we will notify users through the app or by email.
